Can I install solar panels myself?

While it's technically possible to install solar panels yourself if you have the necessary qualifications, we recommend you use our MCS-accredited installers who specialise in safe and professional solar panel installations. Solar installations must be: Completed by a registered and certified electrician.

How do I apply for a hive solar panel & battery installation?

You’ll need to have solar panels or a battery installed by our solar partners. Customers who accept a quote for a Hive solar panel and/or battery installation from the 22nd May 2024 are eligible. 1 After your installation, you’ll receive an email from Hive with details on how to apply.

How long does it take to install solar panels?

Once the installers are on-site, it usually takes two to three days to install a standard solar panel system. However, timings may vary from house to house. How are solar panels installed?

We use a safe and strong installation method that uses friction to hold the rail and the edge of the solar panel securely in place. This system has been tested for heavy rain, hail and even hurricanes, so you know it’s reliable. The panels are then laid on top of the rails, ready to be connected.

How do I choose a solar PV company?

Check local planning regulations to make sure you're allowed to install a solar PV system (see above). Check that the solar PV company is MCS certified and a member of the Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC). Don't accept a price over the phone before the firm has visited.
